Biomass Plants
The Indian Government's Initiative for promoting alternate energy sources has led for increase in Biomass Based Power Plants ranging anywhere from 5 MW to 20 MW using fuels like rice husk, coconut shells, wod chips, coffe beans, jui flowers, poultry litter, etc. These plants are located especially in Northern Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and South Indian states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu where rice is produced in abundance.

The biomass fuel is usually stored in a Silo or in a closed shed depending on the flow characteristics of the fuel. Then by means of belt conveyors or chain conveyors the fuel is transported to screening house. The output is then forwarded to Boiler top and fed into bunker by means of belt conveyors or chain conveyors.

The advantages of Biomass Plants are that since clean fuel is being used the emission levels are reduced and as most of these projects are below 20 MW their installation or setting up time is less and also since the cost of fuel is low the return of investment is also faster. Even operational costs are low.
